"Artwaves Celebrates 2nd Anniversary"
On February 14th, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary of our web-based business. We just want to say "thanks" to everyone who has supported our artists, whether you bought our work through the website, at one of our local shops, or directly from us. Your business means a lot to us and is essential for our survival as a business entity.
We started Artwaves as a place to promote our artists and their work with no cost to them; an idea virtually unheard of. In the past, if an artist wanted to get onto the web, it could cost them several hundred dollars by the time they hired a webmaster and host, just to get started, with each person involved wanting a piece of the pie.
The initial wave of dot-com business has passed, with most of the initial players gone from the playing field. Many people learned the hard way that putting up a business website does NOT lead to instant success. "You can build it, and they will come, but they probably won't buy anything" fact still holds true today. But one thing is certain, if you can grab their attention, they will LOOK. And all salespeople agree that is the first step of making a sale. Now, thanks to the world-wide-web, anyone in the world with a computer and a connection to the internet, can be a potential customer.
And, even though many households in the United States have computers, most people are still reluctant to make online purchases. However, last Christmas, once again retailers reported that more people did their shopping online than ever before which indicates that and more and more people are becoming more comfortable with on-line shopping. Even for art. New web-based art business are appearing all of the time, re-enforcing our confidence that this was a good idea. We have gotten comments and feedback (and even sales!) from people who would have never seen our work otherwise.
We knew that when we first came up with this idea, that we were not going to be the next Ebay of the artworld. Honestly, we don't care. What we do care about are the people who enjoy our art...
YOU!
Ask any artist--creating art isn't about making a lot of money, although that is every artists dream. Art is about invoking feelings and emotions. And we think that we all agree that art makes the world a better place.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to look at our work!
Sincerely,
Diane, Sara, Holly, Seri, Deena, Chris & Ken, Kristin, Dick, Doc & Joe
